Theresa Grout – Corvallis, MT Title of the piece: "REBEL" The story of your piece: I hate orange – I probably use it least of all the colors! Meeting and getting to know Lisa, I’ve realized that not everyone feels as I do. The blue streak is the Rebel in me coming out. Winner: 2nd Place Judge’s comments: Superbly executed! It’s a great mix of both colors and textures. |

Title of the piece: ORANGE YOU GLAD YOU ASKED The story of your piece: This is only one of many orange pendants that I make. I don’t sell many orange pieces, but every once in a while you run across an orange maniac & then all’s well that ends well. Winner: 3rd Place Judge’s comments: Wow! Stunning use of color and lines. Perfect balance to the elements and flow of the design. |

Title of the piece: EMPEROR ORANGE The story of your piece: I believe there are 21 different sizes and colors of orange. The turtle is fiber optic, which I found at Portland’s Embellishment. The carnelian cab I carried with me to Portland. The first night in my motel room it came to me what to start with. I brought a bag full of different orange beads and started free forming with what I had. It was a lot of fun. Winner: Best Use of Orange Judge’s Comments: Very charming! Well executed with a good mix of textures and finishes. This shows a good choice of orange elements. |

Title of the piece: ORANGE YOU GLAD WILMA The story of your piece: Lisa challenged us. Winner: Most Humorous Judge’s comments: Necklace: I like the subtle use of pastel colors mixed with vibrant orange. Mixing a mat texture with smooth and transparent works nicely too! Very clever! Bracelet: What fantastic beads! Black is a nice contrast for them. |

Title of the piece: AND WOULD YOU BELIEVE I EVEN HAD ORANGE NYMO! The story of your piece: Well, I was at Lisa’s last week – like a week before the contest deadline – and Lisa says, "you gonna enter? Come on there is still time." So Sunday night – I decided to go for it. Many of you know I make a lot of beaded beads… so I looked in my stash and yes, I had over 7 shades of orange seed beads. (Lisa has been a subtle influence on the colors I use.) So I thought I could make a bracelet made only with orange beaded beads. And would you believe I even had some orange nymo!! Well, time was growing short. I had run out of time to make any more beaded beads and still get the piece to the post office. But thanks to Russ Nobbs, and the large orange beads I found in Rings & Things "ugly bead bin," I was able to supplement with some big ‘ol orange bead spacers to help me get the bracelet finished. The bracelet is strung on memory wire. You know the stuff, popular in the bead world right now in the ring size for making wine glass identifiers. Maybe I should call this a bottle identifier. I used the anklet size. (It’s the bracelet wire for the large boned individual). Winner: 1st place Judge’s comments: Flawless execution! Each individual beaded bead is delightfully well made. The colors and textures are superb. Great contrast between sparkle and mats. Well balanced for memory wire work. The elements are all thoughtfully placed. |
